KDDI expands its footprint in France and launches its first data center in Paris

Paris, September 25, 2020 - KDDI France announces the opening of "KDDI Data Center Léon Frot", its first data center in Paris. The state-of-the-art data center will be operational in the first quarter of 2021. This opening marks a new milestone in the Group's development in Europe and France.
As the French subsidiary of the Japanese telecommunications leader, KDDI France announces the opening of "KDDI Data Center Léon Frot", its very first data center in France. This investment of more than 100 million euros is an important step in KDDI’s expansion, in Europe and in France.
Since its creation in 1975, KDDI France provides companies and local authorities with infrastructure and technological solutions - mainly cloud-based – dedicated toe-commerce, fintech, education and entertainment. By building its first data center, KDDI France intends to be established as a recognized part of the French digital ecosystem through the development of a "Wholesale" offer, as well as its French Cloud Iaas solutions.
A next-generation data center
KDDI France's data center will be located in the 11th district of Paris, at rue Léon Frot. It will be equipped with the latest technology and will offer the highest security standards. It will include a total of 4,500 m2 of IT space and will provide an electrical power of 5 MW for customers areas/spaces. The first part of the infrastructure will be operational in the first quarter of 2021.
Thanks to its technical features, this data center will offer national and international companies an environment that will give them access to a very high-performance IT and telecom hosting service, particularly in terms of cooling. A technical team of more than 40 technicians will support customers and ensure continuity of service.
An infrastructure perfectly integrated within in the area
In order to ensure that the new data center fits into its environment on a long-term basis, KDDI France worked with the city hall of the 11th district of Paris since the design phase.
Technologically speaking, KDDI France relies on materials and techniques that combine performance and energy efficiency. Local residents will be able to benefit from the calories generated by the center for free, via heat recovery system.
In terms of heritage, one of KDDI France first objectives has been the preservation of this iconic district of Paris richness. Thus, the exceptional building that will house the data center rue Léon Frot has been preserved and renovated. Plants were cultivated in the terrace which will become a vegetable garden open to the district's residents.
